Philodendron Imperial Green
Philodendrons have been used as indoor plants from shortly after their discovery in the tropical rain forests of Central and South America towards the end of the 19th century.
The plant hunters found two basic types, climbers and non-climbers. The climbers gave the plants their name, which comes from the Greek “phileo” to love, and “dendron” a tree, associating the plant with the way it literally embraces the trees it climbs over. Many of the three hundred and fifty species produce aerial roots that hang from the branches of the host trees, some reaching down twenty metres to the forest floor below.
