At Ambius, we specialize in transforming the look of your business with greenery.
Our Living Green Walls and indoor planting designs are the perfect way to add color and ambiance to any space. Not only do plants enhance the environment, but they also make your employees and customers feel great.
Whether you want to make a big and bold statement or simply a subtle enhancement of your space, our expert designers and our comprehensive process will create the perfect solution just for you.
To help you understand exactly what working with Ambius involves, we’ve enlisted the expertise of one of our premier designers in North America; JOanne Craft, ambius.com/joanne, to garner her in-depth knowledge about Ambius services from initial contact to ongoing maintenance.
The result is this handy guide which explains the process from start to finish.
Initial Contact Stage
Our customers come to us from a few main channels: our website, customer referrals and networking events.
If you find us through our website you’ll be connected with a Business Development Associate, who will then arrange an appointment for you to meet with an expert Ambius Design Consultant.
If you come to us through a customer referral or a networking event it is likely that you will have the information to contact a Design Consultant directly.
The consultant visit is your chance to sit down and discuss with your designer exactly what you want from the project.
“Many times the customer wants me to tour around their space right away,” says JOanne. “However, I request that we sit down and talk. It’s important for me to get to the heart of the customer to find out what’s important to them and what they want?”
The designer will then ask you questions in order to understand your desired concept for the space.
“During the initial sit down meeting, I am able to also find out what Ambius services the customer is interested in. By sitting down and asking questions, I find out what they want and what they need, so I can provide the best solution.”
The designer survey on average takes around sixty to ninety minutes; and involves touring the space to identify which plants would work where. Focal feature areas are determined, and you can give input on which desirable areas are not a high traffic space or likely to become one in the future.
Selecting the right location for a plant involves a number of considerations. JOanne says, “When choosing, the right place for a plant, I use my light meter to measure the amount of light level, which will determine if a high light, medium or low light plant is required…right place, right plant!”
The size and temperature of the space is also important to consider, as well as whether the plant will be visible to the occupants of the space, so that they can reap the maximum well-being benefits of being exposed to nature.
The designer may also take photo and create a visual of what the plants and containers will look like in the actual space using our image enhancement services.
The design stage will vary depending on each individual customer, the size of your space and the project.
“After meeting with a client and having successfully conducted a site survey, I have a very good idea of what plants, containers and color of containers I will recommend for the space,” says JOanne. “I always choose the shape, style and color of container first; and then choose the right plant for that proportion or scale.”
Initially the designer will provide you with a quote, a number of design solutions and visual images of the proposed items.
We have found that the majority of people are very visual and like to see upfront what they can expect. Design visualization allows us to digitally add plants or green walls to your space, so that you can see exactly what different designs look like.
Depending on the size of the project, the designer will meet with you at least once during the design stage, and follow up with a telephone call and visit after the installation. For larger projects, they may meet with you several times during the initial design stage and show you samples.
If you require design visualization, photo imaging can take up to five business days. However, the design concept and proposal can be presented in as little as two working days, depending on the size of the overall project.
Living Green Walls
The design process is longer for Living Green Walls. Ambius’ National Projects Team sometimes works on project drawings for over a year in advance. Ideally, Living Green Walls take around six months from contract to installation. However, three to four months is possible for smaller panel systems such as SageWalls™ and SmartWalls. Our newest green wall offering – LivePicture – can be available in three weeks or less.
Sourcing and Installation
“Ambius manages the entire process for office plants,”,” says JOanne.”Once the customer signs the quotation the approval is forwarded to the admin support manager, and they order all the materials required for the project.”
Upon approval, we will explain to you that delivery and installation will take approximately three weeks, and you will be contacted by a member of our operations team to arrange the best date and time for installation.
Living Green Walls
The process is longer for Living Green Walls and will be entirely managed by the The National Projects Team. The plants are first rooted into non-eroding growth material, which promotes strong root structure and ensures longevity for your living plant wall. Living green walls are most often grown in two different systems: panel systems and tray systems.
Panel system planting and growth takes around four months. It takes around one month to select, purchase and plant the plants, and then around twelve weeks for them to grow. During this process, we will monitor growth and provide you with updates on a regular basis.
A tray system will take around two weeks if the nursery has the plants in stock. If they are not in stock it takes approximately two months to grow them from tissue culture or cutting.
The installation process is also slightly more complex for Living Green Walls. After protecting all of the floors and surfaces, we will install the frames, irrigation and hardscape, pre-planted panels and the irrigation drip lines and sensors. Finally, we test the irrigation system to ensure that your new installation is working perfectly.
Once your installation is complete, that is by no means the end of your service. Ambius offers ongoing maintenance with our services, so that you can sit back and enjoy without having to do any of the hard work.
For indoor plants you will receive an average of two service visits per month for feeding, pruning, dead-heading, weeding and replacement when necessary.
Living Green Walls
As well as plant care, maintenance of Living Green Walls will also involve maintenance of the irrigation and draining system.
Our dedication to getting to the heart of what our customers want, means that whatever your vision or the size of your project, we can deliver the ideal design for you, your business and your customers.
