Queens University Science & Health building | Charlotte, NC
The living wall at the Queens University Science & Health building is a Platinum LEED-certified facility with an exterior that can be used as a direct source for teaching about environmental conservation.
With this living green wall, Queens University of Charlotte is demonstrating conservation, as the abundance of green design features ensures that students learn both inside and outside of the building. The green wall also features non-invasive plants which help to keep the building cool.
The most notable feature of the green wall aside from its size is the DNA double helix design. The concept was inspired by a professor at the school and put into motion by Ambius' design team headed by Denise Eichmann. We were able to deliver a turnkey system for the project that allowed the wall to be installed in just about two weeks. The 24' x 35' wall contains 693 standard and custom panels and 14 different varieties of plants.
