Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas | Central Park
Ambius was contracted to design and build a Central Park Garden in the open deck of the largest cruise ship in the world. This was the third garden we implemented for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines in the past ten years. You would think the third garden would be smooth sailing, but each garden brought unique challenges and obstacles to research, plan, and overcome.
This garden installation would take place at a shipyard in France, rather than south Florida like the previous gardens. 53 trees, 42 specimen vines, 10,000 shrubs, and 10,000 living wall plants were pre-planted, then shipped to France for installation in May 2016.
Central Park’s immense popularity reinforces biophilic design principles. Man feels an innate attraction to nature and is drawn to connect on a personal level to spaces which hold vegetation and natural materials.
