Phoenix Roebelenii
Stately palm with a defined trunk. Available in a wide variety of sizes and is best used as a stand-alone specimen. Phoenix palms originate from parts of Asia, North America and the Canary Islands. The fruiting “Date palm”, Phoenix dactylifera, is by far the most important crop plant in the group, so it is not surprising that botanists chose its old Greek name for the genus.
Date palms have been cultivated for at least 5,000 years. In addition to their nutritious fruits, the wood and leaves are used for building and fibre taken from the leaves and bark is twined to produce rope and baskets. Combined with camel hair the fibre can even be woven to produce a covering for tents.
