A calming bonsai lounge escape in the bustling Atlanta airport

Our team transformed a popular lounge at a bustling Atlanta airport into a biophilic oasis. The centerpiece is a magnificent 50-year-old bonsai tree, selected in collaboration with a Florida-based nursery. Beneath its canopy, moss, stone, and ferns create a serene forest floor, complemented by 12 Black Olive trees and 2,200 foliage plants. The space offers a refreshing escape from the busy airport.

Transporting the 20-foot, 2,500-pound tree was a feat, requiring a 600-mile journey and precise coordination to crane it through an exterior access area on a runway before entering the lounge. Large glass panels were removed, and safety barriers were erected for the overnight installation.

In addition to creating a beautiful landscape, the space is highly sustainable, featuring automated lighting and irrigation systems. Exterior terraces offer fresh air, enhanced by wildlife sounds and natural scents. Our client was thrilled, and the bonsai owner’s emotional response reminded us how special this project is—a testament to biophilia in the most unexpected places.
