The Jewel Box restoration in St. Louis, MO
The Ambius St. Louis install team embarked on the creative journey to restore and renovate The Jewel Box in Forest Park in St. Louis, MO. Opened in 1936 as an Art Deco design-inspired greenhouse conservatory, the iconic Jewel Box in the heart of St. Louis’ Forest Park showcased elaborate rotating seasonal blooming and meticulously cared-for interior plant displays for public enjoyment.
To achieve the 2002 planting design layout restoration goal, our lead designer studied a copy of the original landscape plans with care and consulted extensively with the architectural firm responsible for the plantings' initial design. To ensure the quality and sustainability of the design, our designer made multiple trips to various nurseries and growing fields in southern Florida. During these visits, they personally hand-picked and tagged the specific specimen plant varieties that would best align with the project's restoration vision.
To further preserve the historical significance of the Jewel Box's name, we took the initiative to install permanent grow pots. This strategic decision ensured that the seasonal bloom displays would remain consistent in the designated locations, upholding the historical integrity of the site. It also made it easy for our dedicated service install crew to facilitate the rotation changes needed to maintain the Jewel Box's timeless beauty and charm.
